Excellence in Ministry

Excellence.  Simplicity.  Synergy.  Consistency.  All critical topics.  For this post, let me share a little about our journey towards excellence.  Our church is in a very unchurched area (fewer than 5% attend on a weekend!); therefore I often feel like we are "inventing Christendom" in our area.  God has worked in a number of ways, and we are seeing His hand among us.  AND, we've struggled along the way.  We've grappled with how to do our very best and consistently strive towards excellence while at the same time trying to maintain an environment of growth and relationships.  We've failed miserably at times.  Our successes have largely come when we have identified someone with gifts, passion, and have been able to focus them towards the mission and vision.

We teach that "it all starts with the weekend" (modified from  Fellowship Church ), so that has helped to narrow our arena of excellence.  In the church I pastured in Northern Nevada (www.lifepointnv.com), we tried to put about 70% of our "excellence eggs" in the weekend service basket.  That is NOT to say that we are not concerned about excellence in mid-week ministries...but those ministries are RELATIONALLY driven.  The weekend is EXPERIENTIALLY driven and the mid-week is RELATIONALLY driven.
